We are slowly restoring content. Long-time users should all be restored. Over the next couple of weeks I will email you content that you posted so you can repost if you choose. This message will be unstickied in a few days.
Until then, you can read the FAQ or the About section, or discuss how much the new design sucks in this post’s comments.

After I heard Professor Cramulus proposed a revival for this great Discordian site, I came to see what was up so I could post a note in our next Snooze Letter. And what I found was nothing. Glad to see there’s something here, at least. Good luck with recreating the site, and if you have any info for our readers let me know!
The previous sites were all written by myself in asp, and since I keep ignoring the site for extended periods of time, this became a problem when I started trying to implement ways to clean up the comments – also, the backend left alot to be desired.
At Professor Cramulus’ encouragement, I looked into the possibility of installing pre-fab blog software. Unfortunately, the choices available for Windows servers were limited and did not really fit the needs of 23AE – see http://mediaaddicts.com/blog/ for a BlogEngine.Net install I did a while ago to test it out.
So, I decided to switch 23AE to a linux server and go the WordPress route. This will enable a host of features with the only downside being that I know nothing about PHP and so have to come up with different solutions for any of the asp-based features that I wrote and are not covered by the default wordpress install. Luckily, there are tons of great plugins.
So that’s the scoop. Next steps: Recreate categories and users, recreate my posts, and email the old posts to the original posters in case they want to repost them… not sure what I am going to do with the old site’s comments yet.
Hmmm – Is there a way we could keep the old URLs still functional? Like maybe there could be a link to “classic 23ae”, where you can view (but not post) to the site as it existed before last week.
I ask because people on the web have linked to 23ae posts for as long as I can remember… during LitGASM, for example, we did a lot of tagging at 23ae for future Discordians.
I don’t think so, the problem is that asp pages will not function on this new server. I will test and see if they will render as straight html – if they will, I can post a message stating that the server locations have changed and instructions to search for the content.
Edit: Just tested and it seems to work. I won’t be able to get variables out of the URL to do anything with them, but at least there will be something besides a 404: Old Link (ID 510).
EDIT AGAIN: Another solution I just thought of… I’ll bet I can write some javascript that takes the old ID out of the URL and builds a new URL with the address they are looking for in it. It will just take some manual work linking old ID to new ID. I’ll think about it a bit more.
EDIT AGAIN AGAIN: Yes, this works. The code now forwards links with post=1 to the current p=1. Here’s an example: http://23ae.com/index.asp?post=1. Once we have the articles back up, I can map the old IDs to the new IDs and anything that can’t be resolved will sit at the page like the 510 link above.
Definitely keep the old site up! It had some awesome stuff.
Yes, I like this better but it needs to be wiiiiiiiiiiiddddeeeerrrrrrrrrr!
I looked through alot of themes before choosing this one, and there are very few fullscreen ones that look nice. I’ll see if I can make it collapse out without making it too big for smaller monitors.
EDIT: How is that? It’s hard for me to tell because all I have are widescreens so it looks like there is too much space in the center
Quickpost this image to Myspace, Digg, Facebook, and others!
Okay, that didn’t work.

Is that really the size of your screen? Dood, you need a new monitor. What does everyone think about putting everything in a single sidebar? The Recent Comment area seems to be something that has been pretty important here in the past and I would hate to make people scroll to see them.
It looks good on my puter.
If you can get those links working to the old, uneditable version of the site, that would be great. We link to this site several times from our site, there’s links in several other sites (some of which I put there myself), and there’s links in Intermittens, which also seems to have disappeared (I imagine someone who posts here knows what happened with that). As far as I know, we have all the known issues at http://discordia.loveshade.org/xtra/intermittens.html, but it would be great if the main site were up.
I’ll check with Ratatosk to see what happened with the Intermittens site. In the meantime, I see my old account here is no longer working. I imagine that’s true of everybody, and not me being singled out because I’m such an Unholy Terror or something. I’m assuming.
yes, I’m going to go through this weekend and restore the accounts of members who have posted in the past.
In that case, ignore the email I just sent you.
On second thought, don’t ignore it.
Yeah, my server crashed and the backup I had was corrupted. So I’ll have to rebuild it… maybe use a different format this time.
Suggestion: Move logo, quote, search to top bar. Tags and categories on the right beneath recent comments. Result: 2 columns that even I can read. Also: Dood, buy me one.
How does that look? There are issues with putting widgets in the header – that’s why I dispensed with it.
Looks great! Thanks.

Just thought I’d let you know we put Professor Cramulus’ note about your revival in our Oct – Nov 2009 Snooze Letter. It goes to somewhere between 100 and 200 people, so maybe one of two of them will show up here. We’ll have it on our site in the next two or three days, and you’ll be able to see it and other Snooze Letters at http://discordia.loveshade.org/xtra/snooze
I saw the Snooze Letter so Im here! Im so glad were reviving the site its one of the best.
I saw that crappy letter too. So your crappy group of conspirators want to revive this crappy site? Fine. Just don’t invite that guy that always threatened to sue everybody. That joke got pretty damn old after the 12,000th time.
hahaha, yeah the goat guy? Hey, maybe the creator of homestarrunner really did owe him a zillion dollars.
But seriously, that guy sucked, no doubt. He was a troll with only one mode. But I did secretly enjoy deleting his comments all the time.
I thought the joke was pretty funny the first 50 times. After that, well….
It’s not too crappy. Did you read in there I got engaged to Mistress Cockroach Bouncer? Somebody should post something here about that.
Looks good. Looking forward to everything being back up and running.
As there is only 22 comments, it’s more than appropriate that I provide the 23rd. When I was 23 I discovered my strange affinity with the number. It figures 3 times in my birthday (arguably, 4): july 23 1985, 7/23/1985, 2+(7×3)=23, 23, 1+9+8+5=23. I see the number everywhere and am beginning to realize she may be my patron goddess…very strange…and yet, not.
If you’re talking about Eris-Discordia, trust me, you don’t want her as your matron goddess.
This new style looks great. I want to make babies with it.
I don’t think I want to try even imagining what a human-website crossing would produce.
I suspect something like you.
Greetings.
I know that Discordians tend to say a lot of things which are nonsense or only seem like nonsense to the uninitiated but are really sensible or things which are sensible from one perspective and nonsense from another or even things which are nonsense from one perspective and a different sort of nonsense from another, but I am still puzzled over something I found in your copy of the Principia Discordia yesterday. But http://www.23ae.com/format/pdorig/pdorig4.htm says “A Discordian is Required during his early Illumination to Go Off Alone & Partake Joyously of a Hot Bog on a Friday”. Far be it from me to dictate to Discordians how to enjoy themselves, but I have trouble imagining anyone enjoying a hot bog. Is this a mistake, or do you really enjoy a nice soak in a bog in Friday? Thanks in advance for your attention.
Bear Sir,
I’m afraib that I bon’t see the issue with that – it is well accepteb Catma that you must partake of a hot bog on Fribay as an initiate. If you bo not like hot bogs, perhaps you can try slathering it with mustarb? This has the abbeb denefit of keeping Fnorbs at day, and may make your soak more enjoyadle.
