As an occasional libertarian I feel compelled to write this:
Corporations as legal structures, rather that cooperating groups of people, are creations of government, and big corporations cannot survive the diseconomies of scale (economic calculation problem etc.) without constant support from the government both passive (regulatory capture/barriers to entry/state mandated monopolies) and active (bailouts/government contracts). Free market is the last thing big corporations want. They just use its rhetoric, so that people fighting against their stated goals will further their actual goals.

I particularly like the line “Legal fictions are people too”

Absolutely brilliant, even if people won’t get it immediately. But perhaps they’ll spread the news of some weird poster they saw to anyone who’ll listen before they get it, and the getting scares them badly enough to forget it.

I don’t know what to think about corporations having the same rights as people…all I know is that gay corporations should not be allowed to violate the sanctity of corporate marriage.

So i guess there goes all of the discriminatory acts for corps. since now they will have complete free will. This corporation doesn’t believe in niggers. This corporation is homosexual. This corporation is addicted to methamphetamine. THATS NOT FALSE ADVERTISING THAT’S FREE SPEECH!!!! RIGHT? but i guess if that means if some crack job goes nuts and blasts a whole buisness he’ll only go to jail on one count of homocide. Employees are only the red and white blood cells.

This debate is about the question of WHICH subset of rights afforded under the law to natural persons should also be afforded to corporations as legal persons. I’m assuming no one here has a problem with people SUING corporations, right? Well, how could you sue an entity which isn’t given contract rights or the right to an attorney, rights which are generally only held by individual persons? It would be like suing a herd of chickens. Or a flock of bison.

And while I’m at it, I have no problem with unlimited corporate political donations, as long as the donors are disclosed. For example, if 90% of Sarah Palin’s political contributions come from Halliburton, the NRA, and the Southern Baptist Convention, then guess what? I now have yet another reason to NOT VOTE FOR HER because I know she’s OWNED by hawkish, gun-toting religious fanatics and the military-industrial complex.

I agree with Ramarren that corporations don’t really want a free market; that’s why they use politicians to create barriers to entry, to subsidize failure, and to make policies (including wars) that favor them. And politicians are whores who will do anything for votes or a few bucks. One more argument for limited government: larger government tends toward cronyism.

With that said, I think the posters are fucking hilarious.

  6. As I and some co-horts are looking to form a corporation, I have to agree. I also think we should allow individual and corporate polygamy. I want to marry both Wal-Mart and HSBC, then knock them both up. Can you imagine having a baby worth billions? I can!
