In case you haven’t heard, the first Friday of May is No Pants Day, a time to go in public pantsless. That’s American pantsless, meaning without trousers, not Great Britain’s, meaning without underwear. It’s an international celebration designed to draw attention to, well, your pantless state, we suppose. Several Discordians have dropped their trousers in previous years, and many plan to drop them in public again this year.

Discordian cabals that plan to participate include Mythics of Harmonia, the Cabal of the Green Dog and  the Discordian Division of the Ek-sen-triks CluborGuild.

So go pantsless on Friday, 7 May 2010!

Emily Sander aka Zoey Zane, Discordian friend and proposed Discordian Saint.

Israel Mireles was convicted of the murder, rape and aggravated criminal sodomy of 18-year-old Emily Sander. For those who don’t know, the Kansas Sander’s case got national attention because she posed naked online as Zoey Zane. She was called a “porn star” and “pornography model,” but she wasn’t the first and in my opinion wasn’t the second (not that I’d mind if she was). More importantly to us, she was friends with Discordian Perlie the Pony Girl, and had a Discordian tattoo.

Mireles had fled to Mexico, and was found there. But because Mexico, like most of the civilized world, doesn’t allow executions, the United States had to promise not to kill him.  Emily’s friend Perlie said, ”I’m glad they aren’t going to kill him. I don’t believe in that and Emily didn’t either. She was such a wonderful girl. I hope people remember her that way.”

Emily aka Zoey has been nominated as a Discordian Saint.

As for Mireles, he faces almost certain lifetime imprisonment, and will be sentenced 31 March 2010.

The Order of the Pineapple is also called the DisOrder of the Pineapple and the Pineapple DisOrder, but it’s usually abbreviated O.P. (The award has also been called Patus Pineappleus Bromeliadic and the winners The P.P. Bromeliadics or Bromedliaddicts). It honors those who have given extraordinary service to “the participatorial study of comedic attitudes and eccentric tendencies.” Most awardees have been members of one of the chapters of the Ek-sen-triks CluborGuild (ECG), the Discordian Division of the Ek-sen-triks CluborGuild (D & D of the ECG), Colonial Williamsburg, or Discordians, but that is not required. The O.P. is awarded to very few people, those who are especially servicey. It’s presented on only one day a year, January 18 CE, which is 18 Chaos of the Discordian calendar. That date is recognized as Pat Pineapple Day. Pat is the Mascot of the ECG and Patron Saint of the D & D of the ECG.

Professor Mu-Chao: formerly known as Prince Mu-Chao, is responsible for creating the 23 Apples of Eris which appears at http://www.23ae.com. One of the most popular Discordian sites, it slowly faded until a recent revival and a redo brought it back to full strength. E has contributed to many Discordian works; you can see some of Mu-Chao’s work at http://www.23ae.com/author/pmc. We would like especially to point out The Jake that Changed a World, where an effort begun by Mu-Chao led to Planet X being named Planet Eris, at http://discordia.loveshade.org/ek-sen-trik-kuh/planeteris.html. Professor Cramulus: formerly known as Pirate Dan, is largely responsible for OMGASM or Operation Mindfuck: Golden Apple Seed Missions, PosterGASM, and for being the first editor of the Discordian magazine Intermittens. E moderates the Black Iron Prison wiki at http://www.blackironprison.com, edited the second edition book of the BIP found at http://www.principiadiscordia.com/bip/1.php, and has contributed to several Discordian works. Why can’t you ride the subway without pants?

That’s the question asked for the ninth annual No Pants Subway Ride on Sunday, 10 January. Begun by Improv Everywhere in New York, this year it was also held in various parts of the United States and the world, with participants in a reported 16 countries. A few thousand people took off their pants in New York, and others dropped them in Baltimore, Washington D.C., and, of course, San Francisco. Other places included Lisbon, Portugal, and Buenos Aires.

But it’s actually related to an earlier tradition called No Pants Day celebrated by The Knighthood of BUH at the University of Texas, Austin, since 1997. And some claim it began even earlier, around 1985 or 1986. It’s often celebrated on the first Friday in May.

In both No Pants Day and No Pants Subway Ride, particpants may act like nothing unusual’s going on. If questioned, act as if they forgot to wear their pants, but that’s no big deal. Other celebrants make a point of being pantsless, even wearing T-shirts celebrating wearing no pants. How you celebrate is up to you (but for most areas, you’re safer if your nether regions are covered by underwear. “Pants” in the United Kingdom means underwear, but in America it means trousers).

Step 1: Get your car moving at a relatively slow pace. Slow enough to keep up with when walking.

Step 2: When desired speed has been achieved, and you’re on a long stretch of straight road, put it into cruise control.

Step 3: Get out, and walk by the side of the car, doing the most dumb dance you can think possible. You may even prefer to get on the roof of the car and flex your moves there.

You may know that the Order of the Pineapple (OP) is our second oldest and most truly “this-gives-you-bragging-rights” DisOrder. Traditionally, it honors those who have made exceptional contributions of discord and eccentricity in service to the estorical Ek-sen-triks CluborGuild (ECG) and later to the Discordian Division of the Ek-sen-triks CluborGuild (D & D of the ECG). But the times they are a-changin’. As the original ECG faded into the grey mist, as the Shamlicht Kids Club grew into reality, and as the neo-Discordians have become so interconnected, we’ve expanded it somewhat. However, some direct or indirect contribution to D & D of the ECG or the ECG, and service to the cause of discord and eccentric tendencies is still required.

It’s time once again to think of nominating worthies for next year’s award. While only a member of the DisOrder can technically make a nomination, we’ll take suggestions for deserving trouble-makers from anyone. Send your suggestions including reasons why we should consider your proposed member to our email listed on our homepage (link is below). Please send them no later than Santa Claus Day (25 December 2009).

OP Estorical notes

Our oldest DisOrder is The Unknown DisOrder which began in 1981 and technically predates the ECG. The OP is our second oldest, and was first awarded on 18 January 1982, and since then the award is always given on 18 January, which honors our patron saint and the ECG mascot Pat Pineapple. It was most recently awarded in 2009 to willing recipients Steve Jackson and Reverend Loveshade (anyone is free to turn down the award, although as far as we know no one ever has).
